ALEX'S POV :

The first thing I recall about that fateful day was looking out into the congregation and seeing a beautiful, masked girl, dressed in black, holding a camera. All I could see was her eyes and her hair, but I was quite intrigued. After the Wedding Mass, I went to the bridal room, and noticed her there, too. I was really getting curious now. Then, a few minutes later, I was talking with my sister, Dani, and this girl was standing a few feet behind her.

I leaned in and asked, "Who is that girl behind you?"

Dani turned around and said, "Betsy! Meet my brother, Alex!"

"Hi, I'm Betsy", and she took her mask off, briefly - green light!

Emmyn was also standing there, so Emmyn and I had a conversation while Betsy and Dani caught up.

SMH. I didn't really get to talk to her beyond an intro!

Fast forward a few minutes -

Dani, Emmyn, and I are talking about Betsy. I am trying to determine if she is a collectivist, so I ask them. While I'm doing a poor job explaining to them what collectivism is, Betsy comes up.

So I ask her the question, "Betsy! Are you a collectivist?"

"Uhhhhh, a what??", she responded.

I explained collectivism to her.

She replied, "I feel like this is going to define how you see me, so I am going to decline to answer."

Seems fair enough. So yeah, thats how we met - at my sister, Katherine's wedding!

p.s. She responded to my story on instagram the next night : "ps I'm 80% individualist, 10% collectivist, and 10% v confused"

The rest is history. . . . and lots of Rosaries.

BETSY'S POV :

May 30, 2020

I had no clue what was about to happen. My friend, Acacia, invited me to shoot a small wedding with her in Franklin, TN. Ecstatic to have an opportunity to shoot, I gladly joined her. I was shooting this wedding like any other. . . . too focused to think about one of the groomsmen looking at me. After Katherine and Max's beautiful ceremony, I stayed around for a little to catch up with Katherine's sister, Dani. Dani, and her husband, Emmyn, were chatting, so I waited a few feet behind them. They opened the conversation to me.

Dani turned around and said "Betsy, this is my brother, Alex!"

I - almost instinctually - took of my mask to properly smile at him. We shook hands, and carried on. Dani and I caught up while Emmyn and Alex chatted. No idea what Dani and I talked about; I was too busy eavesdropping on Emmyn and Alex. All I heard was "Louisville". I really hoped he didn't live in Louisville.

I left the church, but I was scrambling for an excuse to go back inside. I decided to drop my SD card off to Acacia, hoping I would cross paths with Alex again.

As I walked back to the church, Dani, Emmyn, and Alex were standing on the sidewalk.

  • this is where Alex did the whole collectivism thing

I was hooked. oops. Posing a question was the way to get me interested. After we chatted for a bit, I walked back to my car.

I sat in my seat, and the thought, "Wow. Wouldn't it be cute if I married him here one day?" popped in my mind. Bizarre, but cute.

I answered him on Instagram, after a day of pondering.

He indeed was working in Louisville, but every weekend, on his way home, he would stop by my house, take me on dates, making time for me. This was special. As months passed, we knew this was it!

This past February, we snowed in. We took the time to start researching rings. I found the perfect stone! Sadly, I went back the next day to save the link, and someone had bought it already! :(

Fast forward to June -

We took a vacation to Asheville, NC. Our airbnb was the cutest cabin. We found the most beautiful and quaint parish to attend Mass while we were enjoying our vacation. The day before we came home, we were at a daily Mass early in the morning. After Mass, we decided to stay and pray a Rosary, but the lovely church ladies decided it was time to clean up and chat instead. I was ready to leave, but Alex wanted to stay. I decided to go wait in the car.

In a panic, Alex decided to join me. He persuaded me to go on a walk to one of the gardens outside the church. In my hot, tired, kinda grumpy state, I joined. He had written me a letter - a fairly normal occurrence. As he continued to read the letter, I could hear the emotion in his voice. This wasn't any normal letter. Alex flipped the letter to the back side to continue to read it to me, and he covered the bottom lines with his thumbs. By this point, I knew what was happening. I BLACKED OUT. (not literally, just emotionally). He pulled the ring out of his Rosary pouch, and asked me to marry him!

The "sOmEoNe" who bought the ring just happened to be my future husband!

And of course, I said YES.

(well, actually, I said "Wait, nooooooo. noooooo. I mean of course, YES, but ooooooo my nooo way"

They have been officially dating since May 30, 2020. They got engaged in June 2021. [6] They got married on February 26, 2022. [7] They welcomed their baby boy Thomas Cimorelli on December 1, 2022. [8]
